So I realize it’s been a while, and that’s because my life has been a bit…nuts. In January, my spouse and I moved to Portugal.
This was…obviously pretty complex. Most of the last half of 2025 was spent doing visa paperwork, sorting out getting the dogs transported, packing, sorting. James and I each had one spectacular austitic-overwhelm meltdown in December. (Thankfully, we did not do this at the same time.) In the end, though, we did the thing. James took the dogs on a Bark Air flight to keep them out of cargo, and I flew commercial.
The first half of 2026, we’ve been navigating Portuguese bureaucracy, which is almost a full-time job in and of itself. But we were finally rewarded this week with James’s residency card. My appointment is coming in a week, so hopefully mine won’t be far behind. And yeah, that’s after 7 months of being here. Now we get to wait and see which thing wins the race: my residency card or our box of belongings (which are currently on a container ship parked off the coast of Barcelona).
We’ve also completed our A1 Portuguese language class, with A2 set to start up in late September/early October. So now we can ask for stuff in Portuguese and be left not understanding the answer. 🙂
